Orleans Elementary School: June 20th

Thanks to OES for inviting us to speak about "Being Green This Summer."  What a great welcome we received and what an enthusiastic bunch of junior environmentalists too!  The school just spent the month of June focusing on ways they can be more eco-friendly.  They sure knew their stuff. Look at the awesome sign they made for me!

For all of the OES students here is your special "DO ONE CHALLENGE" certificate you can print. Special thanks to Dawn Steber for coordinating the morning!  You guys rock!  Here are other pictures from the event:

This Year's Theme
In order to better make the connection between climate change and ocean health, this year we are encouraging Partners to promote the theme "helping our climate / helping our ocean" with a special focus on coral reefs, to take advantage of
International Year of the Reef (IYOR) 2008.

Heritage Museum and Gardens

On April 26th we had a table at Heritage Museum and gardens inside the auto museum.  The table was about ecosavvykid.com, what we do, and how to green your life.  Jamie and I had lots of fun especially that we could go anywhere in the auto museum and I could see all the cars!  Me too, says Jamie.

Suggestion Box Slips  Here are some of the suggestions we got on how to live greener:

  • Turn off water when brushing your teeth and doing dishes
  • Use a rain barrel
  • Reduce, reuse, recycle
  • Live conservatively and drive a hybrid
  • No waste and raise your own food
  • Get out and hike some nature trails
  • CFL bulbs, hang clothes out to dry and mulch your leaves
  • Use tote bags at the grocery store ( this eliminates 15-20 bags per week for his family!)
  • Compost
  • Pick up trash on your walks, plant trees and do some community service
  • Donate items to your school you don't want anymore
  • Eat organic and use green cleaners

National Endangered Species Day Was May 16th: What Was It About?
May 16th, 2008, America celebrated Endangered Species Day! The U.S. Senate has created Endangered Species Day as a national celebration of America’s commitment to protecting our country’s wildlife fish and plants on the brink of extinction. This is a great day for evefyone to lean more about the importance of protecting wildlife!
